CHANGZHOU, CHINA October 1, 2020 – AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF), a private foundation based in Liechtenstein, and committed to ending hunger through sustainable agricultural development, has contributed more than US$90,000 in APA as part of its Covid-19 Aid Program launched in April, to provide funding support to non-profit organizations in communities where AGCO operates across the globe.

The donation is part of the second phase of the AAF COVID-19 Aid Program, which supports emergency responses globally in communities where AGCO’s customers, dealers, suppliers and employees live and work, including in the APA region. During the first phase of the aid program, the AAF supported the emergency response by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), with a funding amount of US$100,000 concentrated on the most vulnerable populations in countries in Latin America and Africa. The AGCO Agriculture Foundation matches any contribution made to this campaign up to $100,000 to double its impact by raising additional funding to feed 342 children for a year and support WFP’s lifesaving work in 83 countries, which includes initiatives to support small-scale farmers and more.

Each non-profit organization will utilize the donation to provide emergency responses and drive impacts to their communities. Recipients include:

Self Help Africa will direct the donation to support 1,000 smallholder farming households in the Kafue, Chirundu, Siavonga and Chongwe districts of Zambia. The farmers will be provided emergency seed packs for vegetables such as cabbage, rape, okra and tomatoes and early-maturing varieties of beans to help them revamp food production and build resilience against future agriculture shocks. The institution will facilitate awareness and sensitization sessions on COVID-19 guidelines with 50 lead farmers from the vulnerable groups, training on hand washing and general hygiene in addition to the provision of soap, hand sanitizers, buckets, 4,180 reusable face masks and COVID-19 poster guides. In addition, the organization will use the funds to secure a partnership with local community radio stations to deliver hygiene messages on agricultural production, post-harvest handling and marketing of produce.

For India Goonj, the donation will be used to address crucial gaps in rural infrastructure, livelihood, education, water, environment, health, disaster relief and rehabilitation in vulnerable communities in India, which has been further exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation will contribute to the organization’s ongoing Rahat COVID-19 initiative in many vulnerable districts, which has provided over 3.3 million kilograms of food parcels and other essentials; over 170,000 kilograms of fresh vegetables and fruits and more than 860,000 face masks and cloth sanitary pads.

AGCO donates to the non-profit Wujin Charity Federation in China, provides care packages in Bangladesh and COVID-19 test kits in Malaysia

China Wujin Charity Federation will use the donation of US$12,000 to support poor families to aid education programs, especially for children. The institution will organize events targeted at alleviating poverty among the marginalized populations. In addition, the charity federation will provide medical masks, protective suits, COVID-19 prevention brochures, cleaning and disinfection equipment and disinfectants to poor families, students, medical workers and community workers.

AGCO’s Bangladeshi team worked with volunteers to distribute US$5,000 worth of goods to needy families affected by the country’s self-imposed lockdown. The outreach program benefitted 1,000 families from 3 neighborhoods, and each recipient family received a care package containing eggs, rice, grains and daily essentials.
